Getting Rid of the Stink
They say that first impressions don’t last, but that isn’t always the case. Accept it or not, people will decide whether they like you or not firstly based on how you appear. And, if your breath stinks of booze, then you can rest assured that’s a deduction from your scorecard.
However, there are ways you can make sure that people don’t end up thinking you’re some sad, little alcoholic that guzzles beer by the barrel. All you have to do is get up from bed first and power through what we have to tell you while you’re in the middle of a rather epic hangover.

Primarily, the reason that it’s harder to get rid of alcohol breath than from when you consume other food and drinks is because it doesn’t get digested. Unlike your regular old smoothie or coffee, alcohol is a toxin that gets filtered and processed by your liver instead of your stomach.
As such, it takes longer for your body to get rid of all the alcohol in your system, which leads to a pretty bad case of booze breath. Fun fact: ever wondered how breathalyzers work? It calculates the amount of unprocessed alcohol in your body.
Keep in mind that the liver can only handle so much, which is about a glass of alcohol per hour, and that’s why you have to take extra precautions when getting rid of alcohol breath. So, what exactly can you do to make sure you don’t fall victim to this unpleasant condition? Well, allow us to help!
Drink a lot of Water
Ever had a night out, and then crave some water the morning after? That’s your body telling you that there’s too much alcohol in your body that needs to get flushed out. However, that doesn’t get rid of alcohol breath at all. For that, you need a bit of a different approach, and we hope you hear us out on this: alternate between glasses of your sauce and glasses of water during your drinking session.
Now, we know this could be a little hard to keep track of, especially when you’re having a good time with your buddies at the bar, but believe us when we say that this helps you a lot.
You see, having equal amounts of water and alcohol and alternating between them dilutes the latter, which means you’re going to end up with less alcohol for your liver to process. And, less alcohol means a shorter time – or even no time at all – when you’ll have the stink of wine on you.
Have some Garlic
This is what you call trading off something for a lesser evil. Garlic breath is not pleasant, to say the least, but it is definitely better than reeking of alcohol.
Just think of it this way: would you rather that your boss think that you have a substance problem or just a little too in love with spices? In any case, you may not easily get rid of the alcohol stench, but you can always cover it up, hence we highly recommend going for a breakfast or meal that has a lot of garlic in it after going for drinks.
Additionally, people won’t want to get too close to you if you smelled of garlic, which is all the better when you’re trying to get the alcohol out of your system.
Even better, you can go with snacks and foods with a lot of garlic in them, like garlic fries or garlic bread, while in the middle of your alcohol binge to preempt the smell of alcohol you’ll inevitably get after.
Of all the remedies we’re going to tell you about here, this one’s probably the easiest. So, it’s the morning after and you absolutely reek of booze. All you have to do is drink a lot of coffee throughout the day.
Not only does it help you counter that really bad hangover you have, but it also keeps you perfectly hydrated and energized throughout the day all the while replacing the smell of alcohol in your breath with the strong aroma of coffee. Take note, though, that this one works best if you take your coffee black! So, hold the creamer for now.
Candy Can Work Wonders
There is a pretty common misconception that taking a breath mint once will keep all the odors away from your mouth. That, of course, is not true; it’s similar to saying that a single French fry is enough to fill you up during a meal.
Don’t get us wrong, though: breath mints do work. However, make sure that you pop one in your mouth every now and then throughout the day in order to ensure that none of that alcohol stench becomes too obvious. One every hour or, if your whiskey stench is really strong, every half hour will do the trick.
Mustard: Believe us
Mustard (you know, the condiment you put on your hotdogs) has a very strong taste and smell. However, this can work in your favor; you just have to bear it. Here, you will have to take a spoonful of mustard, follow it up by sipping some water, and then gargling with it.
It is unpleasant, that you can be sure of, but it beats the smell of alcohol any day. Additionally, you can try taking about a teaspoon of the yellow condiment and swallowing it in order to counter the fumes of booze coming from your stomach.
